The history of

Dart Line (Sally Line) 1994 -
VLISSINGEN-RAMSGATE V.V. 1994-1994
VLISSINGEN-DARTFORD V.V. 1994-
ZEEBRUGGE-DARTFORD V.V. 1997-
The route was started after the Olau Line had closed its ferry service from Vlissingen to Sheerness in May 1994.
On 21 March 1994 Sally Line started a freight-only service Vlissingen-Ramsgate with the from Rederi AB Gotland chartered "SALLY SUN".
The "SALLY SUN" was transferred from Sally's Ramsgate-Dunkerque route.
A second ship - the "SALLY EUROBRIDGE" - came into service in July 1994, now it was possible to provide two daily return sailing.
In October 1994 the track was changed from Ramsgate to Dartford.
After the "SALLY SUN" had returned to the Baltic Sea (to Sea Wind Line), the
"SAGA ARIS" came into charter on 26 March 1995 and was renamed
"SALLY EUROWAY".
A further increase of capacity was obtained by chartering the "PURBECK" on 15 May 1995, the "SALLY EUROBRIDGE" went into charter in the Irish Sea.
In January 1996 the route was taken over from Sally Line by Jacobs Holding Plc. and renamed into Dart Line.
Dart Line expanded its services on the English Channel by starting a second service
between Zeebrugge and Dartford in April 1997.
The "DART 2 " and the chartered "MERCHANT VICTOR" started this service and the "DART 2" was replaced on the Vlissingen route by the Eimskip owned "LYRA".
The "DART 5" changed also the Vlissingen route for the Zeebrugge traject to release the chartered "MERCHANT VICTOR".
Jacobs Holding had plans for four new-buildings with a capacity of 2500 lane meters, but in spring 1999 they bought from China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) three ro/ro's.
The ships, "XI FENG KOU", "GU BEI KOU" and "ZHANG ZIA KOU" were build in 1980 on the yard of Kawaskai Heavy Industries in Japan, and were used for the transport between China, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
The ships were converted in China on the Natong shipyard, the special hook stern-ramp was changed by a normal stern-ramp.
The first ship - the "DART 8" - came into service on the Zeebrugge-Dartford route on 11 August 1999 and would be followed by the "DART 9" in September.
The "Dart 10" went directly into charter of Sudcargo and was renamed "MONT VENTOUX".
On the Vlissingen route the chartered ESCO ships "DART 6"and DART 7" were released in 1999 by two ships from the Zeebrugge-Dartford traject.
